Friends, cardiovascular disease kills 454,613 American women a year. Breast cancer kills 41,116 (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute). Non-melanoma skin cancer is more common among women than breast cancer (Centers for Disease Control).
Surprised? Stop eating red meat, stop tanning, stop sexualizing a disease, and try some actual awareness next time.
I really fail to understand how being coy in a Facebook status is anything except pointless titillation. And how does being "aware" help people (not just women) with cancer?
And this time, it's not even for "awareness." The end of the Facebook message that was sent asking ladies to participate reads, "The bra game made it to the news and it was for a purpose, this is just to screw with them. lol REMEMBER - DO NOT EXPLAIN YOURSELF IN THE STATUS." No, thanks. I have better things to do than "screw with [heterosexual men (?)]" for no reason.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on both posts. Yeesh. I saw a billboard or something that said, "Breast cancer is the #2 killer of women in the US." Why not raise awareness about #1? Shouldn't we all be a little more "aware" of that? I think we "raise awareness" for breast cancer because it CAN be sexualized, whereas heart disease...not so much.
ReplyDeleteAnd, what do purses have to do with breast cancer?
Yep. That pretty much sums up my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteUpdate on "Breast cancer 'awareness'": now it has something to do with your relationship status and its fruit code. Apparently it's to "show how powerful women are."
ReplyDelete?!?!?!?!
